Many of you know that Jasper holds a special place in our hearts because of the way our children came into our lives. For a refresher, click here. So after a great season of skiing at our local ski hill and with spring break approaching, heading to Jasper to ski in the mountains was a no-brainer.
This was our first time to Marmot Basin in Jasper and the first time for the kids skiing in the mountains. I am happy to report they did great! We even got some wonderful video footage, as the kids each took turns wearing our GoPro video camera.
Our first day at Marmot was very snowy (but still lovely) but the second day was absolutely glorious: no wind, bright sunshine and warm temperatures.
To celebrate the kids’ success at Marmot, I bought them cute little stuffie marmots on skis at the gift shop. Claire and Ren toted those little marmots around most places in the days following.
With the days growing longer, we still had plenty of time after skiing to enjoy the lodge and the beautiful grounds. We enjoyed lounging around the lodge, playing games (Uno and tile rummy) and swimming in the outdoor heated pool.
Of course, we had to venture into the town of Jasper for some treats, shopping and hugging of all bear statues.
In the evenings, the lodge offered s’mores lakeside for its guests. The children were often in the pool when s’mores were offered but finally on our last night we made a point of stopping in for the yummy treats.
It had already been snowing most of the day but just after our s’mores, the scene became magical with huge snowflakes gently falling from the sky. It was a beautiful end to our little Jasper trip.
