The white stuff

In the last couple of weeks, we’ve received huge amounts of snow for our area. While we do live in the snowy north, it’s not usually quite this snowy!

In the picture above, Claire is trying to make her way into our playhouse in the back yard. You might remember how it looked a couple of posts back before we got all this new snow.

With the snow, we also received a nasty dose of cold weather. It only finally warmed up this week and holey moley, we even got some sunshine! I hadn’t realized how much I missed it.

With an abundance of the white stuff, the kids asked if we could make snow cream. I learned about snow cream from my friend Paige last year. We enjoyed it so much last year that the kids have kept the memory of it alive all year.

They like to each have their own batch to whip up so each kid got 5 cups of snow, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of white sugar and a bit of vanilla.

Since they enjoy doing all the work so much themselves, they then spooned their servings into their personalized ice cream bowls (a gift from a close friend). And then, it was time to dig in!

Is it a little cold, Ren?!

Once again, a great time was had by all. Thanks again, Paige, for sharing the recipe with us!

  • Holy cow, I can't believe the snow you have. We have more than the norm too, but not that much. The kids obviously enjoy the snow cream! We'll have to borrow your recipe and try it out. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Now THAT is a lot of snow! We haven't had so much, thank goodness, just freezing cold.

Yummy snow cream, I remember Paige posting about it, but never made it. I must remember for our next dump of snow!

Love that shot of Claire, third from the bottom, with the bottom half of her face and the bowl. So sweet!

Here's wishing you lots of sun and snow melting! 🙂

  • You're welcome! I am glad they remembered! I don't know if those bowls are quite big enough though!ReplyCancel

  • Wow, that's a lot of snow! I'm sooooo jealous. We're finally getting a little bit this week but haven't had a real snow fall since December. Feel free to send some of that wonderful snow this way. Maybe I'll try out some snow cream. Great pics. The kids always look like they're having such a wonderful time.ReplyCancel

  • Wow, eating snow? Like from a recipe? That's so neat. You sure have a lot of snow to last you for a while! Yikes!!ReplyCancel
